“We Can’t Water Down Reform” …

… is the title of my response to the newest question over at National Journal.  The question is about Representative Judy Chu’s recent report on school improvement.  Here’s a preview, click through to get the whole thing:

I’m deeply concerned about Rep. Judy Chu’s report, primarily because it suggests that we abandon promising reform approaches in favor of doing things that we know do not work. In 2007 Mass Insight published The Turnaround Challenge, and the most dramatic finding of both that report and subsequent studies is that the light-touch reforms of the past have led only to stagnation for our most vulnerable schools and children.
